Mersin Yenişehir Belediyesi ev sahipliğinde hafta sonu düzenlenecek olan Yenişehir Avrupa Triatlon Kupası, Yenişehir Avrupa Triatlon Gençler Kupası ve ulusal yarışlarla triatlon sporunun kalbi Mersin’de atacak. Avrupa Triatlon Kupası’na ikinci kez ev sahipliği yaptıklarını ifade eden Başkan Abdullah Özyiğit, tüm Mersinlileri yarışları izlemeye davet etti.
Mersin Yenişehir Belediyesi, Türkiye Triatlon Federasyonu ve Avrupa Triatlon Birliği iş birliğiyle düzenlenecek Yenişehir Avrupa Triatlon Kupası’nda Cumartesi ve Pazar günü Avrupa ve Türkiye’nin en iyi triatletleri, Yenişehir sahil şeridi ve Adnan Menderes Bulvarı’nda mücadele edecek.
Yenişehir Avrupa Triatlon Kupası’nın basın lansmanı Yenişehir Belediyesi Atatürk Kültür Merkezi’nde yapıldı. Lansman toplantısına Yenişehir Belediye Başkanı Abdullah Özyiğit’in yanı sıra Mersin Vali Yardımcısı İbrahim Küçük, Türkiye Triatlon Federasyonu Başkanı İbrahim Yalçınkaya, Avrupa Triatlon Birliği Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi Pascal Salamin, CHP Yenişehir İlçe Başkanı Toprak Çalışkan, Mersin Gençlik ve Spor İl Müdürü Ökkeş Demir, sivil toplum kuruluşlarının başkan ve temsilcileri, belediye meclis üyeleri, milli triatletler ve basın mensupları katıldı.

Toplantıda konuşan Yenişehir Belediye Başkanı Abdullah Özyiğit, “Yenişehir gibi güzide bir kentin böyle bir organizasyonda olması gerekiyordu ve biz göreve geldiğimiz ilk yıl bu bağlantıyı kurduk ve Yenişehir, bugün sadece Türkiye’nin değil Avrupa’nın da en güzel parkurlarından biri olarak kayıtlara geçmiş durumda. Ulu Önder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ün bize emanet ettiği Cumhuriyetin yüzüncü yılındayız. Yüzüncü yılda bu organizasyonun Mersin’de, Yenişehir’de yapılmış olması bizim için gurur vesilesi.” dedi. Önümüzdeki yıl Dünya Kupası’nı Mersin’e getirmek istediklerini ifade eden Başkan Abdullah Özyiğit, 4 yıl önce ilk kez düzenledikleri triatlon yarışlarıyla artık Yenişehir’de triatlon sporunu yapan çocukların olduğunu söyledi. Özyiğit, “İnanıyorum ki önümüzdeki süreçte Mersin’den ve Yenişehir’den yetişen atletlerimiz ülkemize madalya kazandıracak seviyeye gelecekler.” diye konuştu.

Mersin Vali Yardımcısı İbrahim Küçük ise yaptığı açıklamada şunları söyledi: “Bu yarışların yapılabilmesi için ortaya bir irade konması gerekiyordu. Bu açıdan Sayın Belediye Başkanımıza teşekkür ediyorum. Çünkü o iradeyi kendileri ortaya koydular ve sürekliliğini sağladılar. Tabi ki bu yarışların gerçekleştirilebilmesi için iyi bir alt yapıya ve tesislere sahip olmak gerekiyordu. Yine onu da sağlayan Gençlik ve Spor Bakanlığımızın alt yapısı, yurtları ve diğer tesisleri, spor alanları son derece gelişmiş ve daha önceden kalan, devam eden yapılaşmayla beraber alt yapıyı sağladı. Tüm paydaşlar üzerine düşen görevi yerine getirdiler. Ve aynı zamanda Mersin bu açıdan da avantajlı bir il. Çünkü Mersin görselliği ve turizmi ile, doğasıyla, havasıyla, iklimiyle buna son derece uygun bir yer. Yenişehir bunların arasında belki en güzel mekanlardan bir tanesi. Buna en layık olanlardandı. Burada gerçekleştirildiği için ben tüm paydaşlara teşekkür ediyorum. Emeği geçen herkese teşekkür ediyorum.”
